by Berit Eldvik

A more specialized book for those interested in the history of Swedish weaving, especially its prominent and unbroken tradition among home weavers. Primarily text in Swedish with some nice accompanying photos of weavings, drafts, and looms.

Description from the publisher:
During bleak economic times, the Ekenmark family started their weaving business as early as the 1810s and continued for half a century with six siblings, their mother and a married woman. Over time, the family group became something of a national celebrity. They traveled around the country and taught advanced weaving techniques to young women in particular. Their many weaving books have been distributed in large editions and contributed to an interest in home weaving that few other countries can demonstrate, something that has continued well into our time.

Here, Berit Eldvik tells this unique story of perseverance, and portrays the efforts and specialties of the various Ekenmark siblings. She also demonstrates the importance of the Ekenmarks as educators of the many skilled weavers who came to play an important role when the handicraft associations gained access to them to lead courses in all kinds of techniques. Through the long tradition with roots in the Ekenmarks, Sweden has gained a special position in the world of weaving and has conveyed knowledge to other countries such as Japan and the USA.
