Åkle: Brotkvitel, brautaåkle, bråkvitel, teppe
by Elin Alver, Marta Kløve Juuhl, Ranveig Reigstad and Kristi Skintveit
Norwegian coverlets--and their curators--are having a moment! This book is one of two major book projects documenting regional coverlets in Norway to hit museum shelves in 2024 and 2025. I am so pleased to offer both to you.
This gorgeous treasure-trove documents the weaving traditions of the Nord- and Midthordland regions in Norway. Copious color photos of coverlets in different styles are accompanied by notes on loom types, structures, and stories from weavers. In Norwegian but we are lucky it includes an English summary after each section.
Publisher's note: "The book Åkle is a tribute to the weavers, and the rich tradition behind them, and with this book the authors write our region into the national textile cultural heritage. We are pleased to present a colorful and beautiful book!"
